Welcome to Bangladesh Travel Guide
|
Bangladesh, officially People’s Republic of Bangladesh, is a small country in the south Asia. . It is bordered by India on all sides except for a small border with Burma (Myanmar) to the far southeast and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. Together with the Indian state of West Bengal, it makes up the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal. The name Bangladesh means "Country of Bengal" in the official Bengali language. Bangladesh boasts several major cities like Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, and numerous natural and archeological gems for the tourists to explore. Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh, and also the biggest city in the country.

The city is a shopper’s paradise, along with few tourist attractions (i.e., Lalbagh fort, Ahsan Manjil, National Assembly). There is also National Mausoleum in Savar, which is in the outskirt of the city. Dhaka's signature sight is the wonderfully ornate bicycle rickshaws that flitter in and out of the traffic like exotic tinkling butterflies. The city is home to some 400,000 of them, each a work of art in its own right, and arguably the cheapest mode of public transport in the world. Aside from that fact, they are actually the logical way to overcome the desperate congestion of the major thoroughfares. The riders have the dexterity and daring to plunge for the slightest gap in the traffic, which the larger vehicles cannot hope to match, least of all the grimy and overcrowded local buses, whose paintwork invariably resembles papier-mâché after all the scrapes they've endured.

Chittagong, is the second biggest city of Bangladesh, and also considered as the port city. As Bangladesh's biggest sea port, Chittagong has been a beacon for fearless adventurers and commercial entrepreneurs alike. The city is home to many of Bangladesh's traditional mercantile classes. Greater Chittagong boasts the country's highest peak, in the Hill Tracts, and 152km away lies the world's longest beach, Cox's Bazar. The Patenga Beach, where the river Karnaphuli
meets th e bay, is on the outskirts of the city.
There are more than big cities to see in Bangladesh. The country is home to the largest mangroves forest in the world, Sundarbans National Park, and it’s most famous inhabitant the Royal Bengal Tiger. Bangladesh also boasts several archeological sites, Paharpur (UNESCO heritage site), Mahastanghar, and Mainamati, which are some of the best known Buddhist viharas.
